Removing paint from models Empty

So, Today my cousin just gave me all his old warhammer for free, which is awesome, but they paint job is well... you can tell there were the first models. What would be the best way to get it of without melting the models? Some of them are glossed too (well, three boltguns, so no loss really) and What about metal models?
